So you want to know what to do with a rutabaga? Well my advice is to get as far away from it as possible. But there are some people who love the vapors of a root bred from the unholy union of a cabbage and a turnip. This section will be devoted to how to cook what you buy at market, because the most common question I get on any given Thursday is, “So what do you do with this?” I have to really control my instinctive response because I assume most people know how to cook. But as my wife has pointed out from watching the Barefoot Contessa, most people wouldn’t know what to do with a skillet, some olive oil, an onion and a random green vegetable if their life depended on it – which it does. I have always assumed that adults with the right to vote could actually prepare a meal. Call me crazy, call me a farmer, I’m still not wearing a tie to your wedding.
Anyway, cooking is simple (except for baking which is chemistry). But for now I’ll leave you hanging because I’m having my aperitif.
